Pastor Preston L. Jordan
Preston Leroy Jordan, Jr. is the pastor of the historic Trinity Baptist
Church of Newport News, Virginia.
He has faithfully served this congregation since 1986, and has the
distinction of being the longest serving pastor in Trinity's illustrious
history. Prior to this time, Pastor Jordan served as Pastor of Mount Olive
Baptist Church-Essex County, Virginia from 1979-1986.
Pastor Jordan was born in New York City and moved to Virginia as a
teenager. He graduated from Lancaster (Virginia) High School in 1972. He
graduated from King's College (New York) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
History in 1976. Pastor Jordan graduated from Virginia Union
University-School of Theology with a Master's of Divinity Degree in 1979.
His future educational plans include attending graduate school to obtain a
Doctor of Ministry Degree.
Pastor Jordan also serves as Adjunct Professor of Humanities at Hampton
University.
Pastor Jordan is active in the local community with the following
affiliations: Peninsula Baptist Pastor's Council (member and past
president); Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center (past board member);
Transitions (past board member);Empower Hampton Roads (past board member);
Spiritual Renewal-Coalition of Clergy participant;NAACP and the Baptist
General Convention of Virginia.
Trinity has seen a resurgence of spiritual growth under Pastor Jordan's
leadership. The church partnered with the Office of Human Affairs to provide
after-school mentoring for at-risk children in the East-End of Newport News.
The church has served as a neighborhood meeting place for community issues,
and the church recently started "Give God Away" Day where food, clothing and
vital community information is given away free to area residents.
Pastor Jordan is married to the former Josephine Coleman of Dayton, Ohio.
They are the proud parents of Jason, Vincent, Lauren and Jasmine - and proud
grandparents of Daysia and Jaylen.
